Quizzical Viking demonstrates my ability to take a 2D character design and translate it into the 3D space. Let's see how we got here!

THE MAKING OF: QUIZZICAL VIKING

Character Design not mine.

This model was for my digital sculpting class at UT Dallas. Students were tasked to model a character bust.

I chose this viking because visually his design caught my eye when looking for ideas to sculpt. I liked the contrast of his long thing horns and the extreme exaggeration of his puffy green fabric.

My construction for this bust sculpture began in Autodesk Maya, where I built the base mesh that I would then take into zBrush to sculpt from there.

This image to the right was milestone one. All the major forms had been brought in, roughly sculpted to fit the shape and likeness of the character. The majority of the model was still fairly low poly at this point.

Here to the left is the finished character bust assignment. I do still plan on adding the rest of his body at a later time.

I added color and sculpted the finer details during the second and final milestone. In total, this project took 2 weeks.

These images on the right are snapshots of my final vision for the project. I have added the viking's shoulder pads, lower body and arms.

Throughout this whole process I have learned that it is okay to step back from projects and then revisit them. This has helped me grow as an artist because I can use what I have learned from the pause in the project and reflect on ways to streamline processes or what would make the overall project stand out more.
